So whether you are a Netflix or Amazon Prime Video UK subscriber or Amazon US there are plenty of interesting shows coming soon to look forward to. We’ve collected the best with trailers to get you excited.
Upcoming TV shows to watch on Netflix
Netflix was the first major streaming service to start an “Originals” program, where it funds and creates its own shows and movies. It also badges some programming as a Netflix Original for the UK market that might have appeared on US TV first.
Many if not all of the series listed are presented in 4K Ultra HD and with HDR or Dolby Vision on compatible TVs or systems.

The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance
- Season: 1
- On-air date: 30 August 2019
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a prequel to the fantasy classic from 1982. In this new show, three young Gelfling are set to inspire a rebellion against the Emperor when they discover a terrible secret. We’re expecting plenty of brilliant puppetry and storytelling from this one, especially as its produced by Lisa Henson (Jim Henson’s daughter).
Unbelievable
- Season: 1
- On-air date: 13 September 2019
Unbelievable is a new show that’s inspired by real events and based on the ProPublica Pulitzer Prize-winning article, “An Unbelievable Story of Rape,” written by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong. It tells the story of a teen who reports her rape to the police, but then eventually withdraws the claim, but there’s much more to the story.
Altered Carbon (Season 2)
- Season: 2
- On-air date: Unknown
Altered Carbon is a sci-fi series based on the novel of the same name by Richard K. Morgan. We loved the first series of this show and the cast of the second season (currently in production) has just been revealed.
There’s no official word on when we can expect this show to hit, but we’re waiting with bated breath.
The Witcher
- Season: 1
- On-air date: Unknown
Gamers are excited and you should be too. One of the most popular RPGs of recent times is getting made into a TV show with Henry Cavil playing the lead role. For those that don’t know, the witcher Geralt is a mutated monster hunter and this show finds him struggling to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.

Like Netflix, Amazon has a healthy selection of homegrown shows available to Prime subscribers. You can also watch them at a cost without Prime, but it’s a lot cheaper to pay for a yearly subscription and get a load of other benefits thrown in – including access to the Amazon Music streaming service and free next-day – or same-day in some cases – delivery. A lot of its shows are also bought from US channels for regional distribution.
Many of them are available in 4K HDR.
Carnival Row

Carnival Row is a Victorian fantasy starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne in a world filled with mythological immigrant creatures. These creatures are feared by humans and forbidden to live with freedom. Things take a turn when the city’s already uneasy peace collapses after a string of murders occur and reveal a monster like no one could imagine.
The Man In The High Castle

- On-air date: 15 November 2019
We were honestly a bit lost with the recent outing of Man in the High Castle but still find thew whole alternate timeline thing fascinating. If you enjoyed it and can’t wait for more, there’s not long left to wait now.
The Expanse
- Season: 4
- On-air date: 13 December 2019
More Sci-Fi thrills and spills are coming later this year in the fourth instalment of The Expanse. This time there’s a new conflict between Earth, Mars and the Belt as well as battles between the Earth mining corporation and Belter settlers.
Star Trek: Picard
- Season: 1
- On-air date: 2020
The fantastic Patrick Stewart is returning to his iconic role as Jean Luc Picard in this new series of Star Trek that’s coming to Amazon Prime Video in 2020. The new trailer certainly has Trekkies excited as the new show is also set to see a return for The Next Generation’s Data (Brent Spiner), Voyager’s Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes). Time to nerd out.

His Dark Materials

His Dark Materials adapts Philip Pullman’s trilogy of the same name into a new HBO/BBC TV series. It’s set to be a work of imaginative fiction, following a seemingly ordinary but brave woman from another world. This woman is searching for her kidnapped friend and in doing so she uncovers a dark and sinister plot involving stolen children. Encounters with extraordinary beings and wonderful worlds await.
Watchmen
- Season: 1
- On-air date: October 2019
Coming to HBO is a new series based on the graphic novel of the same name. You might remember there was a film a few years ago, now Watchmen is getting its own show too. It’s set in an alternate history where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws and life in that world is very different from ours.
Rick And Morty
- Season: 4
- On-air date: November 2019
Adult Swim has apparently picked up the cult hit Rick and Morty for another 70-episodes, so there’s plenty more to come and season 4 starts in November 2019. Exciting times.
